The main research interests:
- seasonal changes in physiology and behavior in small mammals
- physiological and behavioral response to changing environment in vertebrates
- polymorphism in winter phenotype
- heterothermy in small mammals
I am interested mostly in response of small mammals to season and their adaptations to changing environmental conditions. As a model I use Siberian hamster Phodopus sungorus, which develop winter phenotype (white fur, reduced gonads and daily torpor) in response to shortening days. It also presents high variability in winter response (polymorphism in winter phenotype). Our study incudes measurements of metabolic rate, behavior and changes in hormone level in response to stress.
