The main research interests:
- ecology of vertebrates (amphibians and small mammals)
- animal ecophysiology
- animal toxins and toxinology
- animal behavioral ecology
- amphibian protection
- parasitology
My research on ecology of amphibians and small mammals (rodents and shrews) includes habitat preferences, intra- and interspecific competition, foraging and hoarding food reserves (shrews) and animal defense strategies (amphibians). In toxinological research I focus on 1) the analysis of composition and activities of venoms and animal toxins (anurans and shrews), 2) the analysis of costs of venom/poison production and the consequences of toxin secretion and replenishment, and 3) evolution and role of animal venoms in hunting prey and gathering food (shrews), and defense against predators (amphibians).
